Obituary for Richard Allen Clarkson

Richard Clarkson (1940 - 2017)

Richard Allen Clarkson, known as “Butch” to many that loved him, passed peacefully from this life on September 28, 2017. Richard was born on June 7, 1940 in San Jacinto, Indiana to William Woodson and Mildred Marie Curtis. Richard, their youngest son, spent his childhood playing basketball, baseball, riding bikes, and enjoying his summers.

Richard worked many years in the construction industry as a carpenter, superintendent and business owner. He thrived at being a craftsman, working with his hands, building things for his family and friends. He was interested in all sports, watching and participating in, being a particularly avid golfer. Richard loved collecting, most especially model/toy cars that represented his childhood and various interests. He loved to tell stories and joke. Richard had a beautiful voice that he used to express his life and worship, singing in church choirs over his lifetime, blessing all who heard him sing.

Richard lived a wonderful, loving, spiritual life. He is survived by his wife, of 18 years, Carol Malitz Clarkson; his children Jeffrey Clarkson and wife Vicki; Pamela Mize and husband Jay; Kristi Pearson and husband Jon; and their mother, Sandra Yocum; step-children Lisa, Jennifer and John Lavagnino. Richard adored his grandchildren Jennifer, Taylor, David, Megan, Lindsey, Madison, Sam and Iain; and his great-grandchildren Landon, Skyler, Molly, James, Jolie and Ella. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David “Duff” Clarkson.

Services include the following: A Celebration of his life at Faith Community Church (18621 CA-99, Acampo, CA 95220) on Wednesday, October 4th at 10:00am. Light brunch to follow.
