Esther Katherine (Zimmerman) Dietz, 97, of Lodi died August 26. She was born May 20, 1924 in Lehr, North Dakota. She moved to Lodi in 1944 and married Albert Dietz on January 13, 1946. Esther was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 62 Years. She served as chairman of their quilt group for many years. She enjoyed playing bunco with her friends, camping with her husband and other family members, as well as traveling to many interesting places. She liked seeing new places but especially enjoyed visiting far-flung family members. Her favorite activity was gardening. Esther had a green thumb and found pleasure in watching things grow. Esther is survived by her daughters, Sharon O’Connell (Michael) of Lodi and Joanne Dyer (Richard) of Manteca; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother James Zimmerman of South Dakota; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Dietz; son Dale Dietz; parents; as well as 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Due to Covid-19, the family is having a private service at Cherokee Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 701 S. Pleasant Avenue, Lodi, CA 95240.
