Obituary of Laverne Mae Stoddard

Please share a memory of Laverne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Laverne Mae Stoddard joined her husband, Gerald, in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on November 9, 2021. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Laverne was a prayer warrior, praying for all of her family and loved ones daily, and even for those she didn’t know. You may have been on that list! Born on October 17, 1923 in St. Paul Nebraska to Larimore and Mamie Jacobson, Laverne was the third of six children: Quentin, Arlyne, Dorothy, Arvilla and Donald. Laverne married Gerald, her high school sweetheart, in Pensacola, Florida’s Naval Base Chapel. It was there they began their Navy life together. They had four children: Donna, Kathryn, Stephen and Judith. After Gerald’s retirement from the Navy, they settled in Lodi. Laverne was a wonderful homemaker, welcoming and loving family and friends unconditionally. Thanksgiving was always a cherished time for the family when a huge group of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends joined together to enjoy feasting on all of the aunts’ specialties. But what always topped it off were “Aunt Laverne’s famous hand-decorated turkey cookies”. (You could only have one!) Laverne felt truly blessed by all of her family and friends. Her love of God, family and friends defines her (Proverbs 3:10 – You are more precious than jewels). Laverne is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald, and siblings Quentin Jacobson, Arlyne Coons, Dorothy Gunter, Arvilla Sikes and Donald Jacobson. She is survived by her children Donna Siria (Richard), Kathryn Stoddard, Stephen Stoddard (Sandy), and Judith Stoddard-Closson, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a very special heart-felt thank you to Laverne’s dear, loving caretaker, Mele. Donations may be made in her name to: Hospice of San Joaquin County, Grace and Mercy Charitable Foundation or Bear Creek Community Church Memorial Fund.
