Obituary of Allen Ivan Chronister

Allen Ivan Chronister, Sr., 91, of Lodi, entered into rest peacefully at home, in the arms of his beloved granddaughter Marie Moreno and in the presence of his beloved family, on Tuesday, October 14, 2003, following a long illness. He was born on July 19, 1912 in Great Falls, Montana, the son of Luther P. and Helen Chronister. Mr. Chronister grew in Montana, where he attended local schools. He came to California with his family as a teenager and lived in the Long Beach area. On December 31, 1932, he married the former Geneva Harlan, in Riverside, California, and the couple made their home in Long Beach. Mr. Chronister worked as a roofer for over 40 years. After retiring, he worked with his parents operating a convalescent home in La Verne, California. He was very talented as a handyman, and was able to perform a myriad of construction projects, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. He will be remember as a devoted family man of a somewhat quite disposition, but full of vigor, determination and zeal. He was kind and compassionate, and possessed a remarkable sense of dedication and love toward his family. In 1991, his wife preceded him in death, after 59 years of marriage. In 1998, he came to Lodi with his daughter and her family, and lived on a farm east of town. He was a long time member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Long Beach Roofer's Union. Mr. Chronister is survived by his daughter, Helen Diane Moreno and her husband Robert Moreno of Lodi, his son, Allen Ivan Chronister, Jr. and his wife Emily of Long Beach; 7 grandchildren: Dr. Michael Moreno, D.D.S., Anita Moreno, Deborah Ast, Robert A. Moreno, William Moreno, Marie Moreno and Edward Moreno; 13 great-grandchildren: Jennifer Ast, Josh Ast, Michael Quiroz, Jody Taylor, Amy Moreno, Nicholas Quiroz, Robert Quiroz, Kelly Moreno, Allen Moreno, Eric Quiroz, Stephen Moreno, Emmalee Moreno and Elsie Moreno; and four great-great grandchildren: Connor Michael Quiroz, Andrew Ast, Allen Ivan Chronister, Jr. and Savannah Taylor; his sister, Grace Davis of Riverside, CA; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Chronister; his sister, Esther Bolis and his brother, Russell Chronister. Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, October 19th, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Rev. Ralph Watts III of Fairmont Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 18th, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Sunday, October 19th from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Graveside committal service and interment will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California.
