Obituary of Karen Marie Johnson

Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Karen Marie "Teacher Karen" Johnson, 46, of Woodbridge, CA, entered into rest on July 2, 2003 at her residence in the presence of her beloved family, following a long illness. She was born in Stockton on September 4, 1956, the daughter of Harold and Nona L. Talley. Karen grew up in the Acampo area, where she attended local schools. She was a graduate of Lodi High School, Class of 1975. On May 3, 1980, Karen married Rick Johnson at Woodbridge Community Church. Their union was blessed with the birth of their son Jason, and their daughter, Jenny. Karen was a devoted wife and mother, who had a remarkable talent for educating children. She led a career of over 2 decades of service in children's Christian education. Karen worked as a daycare and pre-school educator at Century Assembly Pre-School, Happy Hours Daycare, Lodi Daycare Nursery, and lastly, leading her own business, Busy Bee Day Care. She was affectionately known by her pupils as "Teacher Karen". She was well loved and respected by her students and their parents, her peers and superiors. While working at Happy Hours Daycare, Karen was awarded a special recognition as "Teacher of the Year" for two consecutive years. Karen was a very talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. She was also a very skilled writer, and wrote and directed many children's plays: she would oversee the entire process including sewing the costumes, sewing puppets and making any other props. Karen enjoyed reading and wood crafts, but her true passion was teaching. During her long battle with cancer, Karen remained a source of inspiration to all. Her positive outlook and her love for life was awe inspiring and touching to all who were blessed to have known her. Her devotion to her husband and children, as well as her entire family was unwavering until the end. Karen is survived by her husband, Rick Johnson, and her daughter, Jenny Johnson, both of Woodbridge; her parents, Harold Talley of Acampo and Nona Talley of Lodi; two sisters, Connie Biedel of Sacramento and Lois Palmer of Stockton; and one brother, Mark Talley of Acampo. She was preceded in death by her son, Jason Johnson. Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Rev. Harold Duncan, Pastor Emeritus of Century Assembly Church, officiating. Graveside committal service will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Visitation will be on Sunday and Monday, July 6th and 7th from 12 noon to 8 PM at Lodi Funeral Home. To honor Karen's memory, contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Lodi Unit, 207 E. Alpine Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204 or Century Assembly Pre-School, 550 W. Century Blvd., Lodi, CA 95240. A virtual register book of remembrances can be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com Lodi funeral home entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
