Felipe Hernadez Soto, 72, of Thorton, passed away at a Lodi hospital on June 2, 2003, after a long illness. A native of Gran Morelos, Chihuahua, Mexico, born on August 23, 1930, Mr. Hernandez was the son of Felipe Hernandez and Guadalupe Soto. In 1953, he married his first wife, Cristina Estrada. In 1970, his wife passed away. On July 21, 1977, he married Maria Guadalupe Cobian in Rio Vista, CA, and moved to Thornton in November of 2000. Mr. Hernandez worked as a farm laborer in Rio Vista from 1965 until 1991, when he suffered a stroke. Mr. Hernandez was know for his tenacity and determination, as well as his resilience and stamina. He was a hard-working, honest man, who loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez of Thornton; three sons, Felipe Hernandez, Jr., Ramon Hernandez and Freddy Hernandez; sixdaughters, Anna Maria Hernandez, Isidra Borquez, Maria Concepcion Hurtado, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez, Rosa Irma Goytia and Gabriela Hernandez-Ramos;; three brothers, Cosme Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, and Raul Hernandez; five sisters, Rosa Hernandez, Beatriz Hernandez, Josefina Serna, Emma Corona and Luzelena Estrada; 15 grandchildren, Christina Perez, Robert Alexander Hernandez, Michael Anthony Borquez, David Raymond Borquez, Juan Carlos Hurtado, Jaime Alfonso Hurtado, Stephanie Hurtado, Christian Rosales, Adrian Alejandro Rosales, Michelangelo Rosales, Samantha Barcenas, Sabrina Barcenas, Claudia Rosemarie Goytia, Arthur Joseph Goytia, Brandon Anthony Goytia; one step-grandson, David Michael Ramos; and three great-grandchildren, Daniel Aguilar, Briana Aguilar and Victor Solorio . He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cristina Estrada; his parents, Felipe Hernandez and Guadalupe Soto; one sons, Hector Estrada; two daughters, Carmelita and Cristina Hernandez; and one brother, Julio Hernandez. Friends are invited to attend visitations from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and Friday, June 5-6, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home, 725. S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 7th, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for his soul at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 950 S. Lincoln in Galt. Father Jerry Ryle, officiating. Committal and interment will follow at Galt Arno Cemetery in Galt. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Lodi Funeral Home is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
