Caecilie Gottschalk, 72, of Lodi, entered into rest on May 29, 2003 after a long illness. She was born on April 8, 1931 in Merten, Germany, the daughter of Josef Pesch and Helena Behringer. Caecilie was raised in Merten and attended local schools there. In 1952, at the age of 21, she immigrated to the United States, and settled in state of New York. She met Herbert H. Gottschalk in 1947 in Merten, who immigrated to the United States in 1951. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served 10 years as a non-commissioned officer, who would become the love of her live. The celebrated their nuptials on June 20, 1953 in Del Rio, Texas. As a mother, Caecilie was endowed with a tender loving heart, patience and stamina to raise their three children, which blessed her marriage to Herbert. As an Air Force wife, she knew how to cope with the rigors of military life, making several homes around the world, during the span of her husband's military service. In 1962 the family moved to Bayshore, New York, where they resided for 26 years. After Herbert's retirement, on March of 1988, they came to California and settled in Lodi on August of 1988. Caecilie enjoyed traveling, gambling and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Herbert H. Gottschalk of Lodi; her daughter, Beverly Baumann and son-in-law Joseph Baumann of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; her son, Herbert J. Gottschalk of Stockton, California; Five grandchildren, Sharon and Christopher Ball and Joseph, Timothy and Jason Baumann; two sisters, Agnes Dorff of Merten Germany and Anne Grins of Bruehl, Germany; and her brother Karlheinz Pesch of Largo, Florida. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Gottschalk in 2002. Friends are invited to attend visitations on Sunday, June 8, 2003 from 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, June 9, 2003 at Lodi Funeral Home. Pastor William Crabtree of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Lodi, officiating. Committal and interment will follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5150 E. Pine Street in Lodi. A virtual memorial register book may be signed by visiting Lodi Funeral Home's Website at www.lodifuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice. Lodi Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be sent to the family for memorial considerations.
