Obituary of George Howard Whitby

George Whitby passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in Clements, CA at the age of 67 years old. He was born in Stockton, CA on July 24, 1954 to John and Virginia (Gordon) Whitby. He attended Clements Union School and graduated from Lodi High school in 1972. He moved to San Luis Obispo, CA to attend and graduated from Cal Poly State University with a Masters Degree in Computer Engineering. He moved back to Clements after graduating college to the home ranch in Clements, CA where he spent the rest of his life. George went to work for Triad Industries in Livermore, CA after college until they closed in 2000 and then went to work for the State of California for 20 years. He raised Angus beef cattle at the ranch with his sister, Nancy (Whitby-Chappell) Callsen. George at the time of his death was President on the Board of Directors for the Clements School Community Center and was a member of the Clements Buckaroos. George was a past member of the Clements Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Clements 4-H club. George was very active and supportive of the community and always available to lend a helping hand. He was looking forward to retirement from the State of California in December and spending his retirement flying a different RC plane each day. Some of George's favorite activities was attending swap meets, flying RC planes, attending the annual World AG Expo in Tulare, CA, and going on RV road trips with his sister, Nancy Callsen and her family. The most memorable trip they took was the summer when they did a 30-day RV road trip from California up to Montana and across to South Dakota, down to Tennessee and back to California to visit family and historical sites. George was a history and plane buff. George is survived by his sisters, Nancy (Del) Callsen (Lockeford, CA), Kathleen (Rick) Albee ( Tennessee), Brother Edward (Sandy) Whitby (Hawaii), Nieces, Jennell Johnson (Linden, CA), Judi (Brady) Horton (Lockeford, CA), Nephews, Kenneth Chappell (Lockeford, CA), John (Candace) Whitby (Susanville, CA), great nieces, Krissie Chappell (Lockeford, CA), Kaiylnn Johnson (Linden, CA), Anndrea Johnson (Linden, CA), Ashlyn Whitby (Susanville, CA), great nephews, Scott Whitby (Lockeford, CA), Ryan Whitby (Susanville, CA) and Austin Whitby (Susanville, Ca). George was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Clarence (Elsie) Gordon and George (Ann) Whitby. At the family request there will be a private family grave side service. A celebration of life will be held at the Clements School Community Center on November 10, 2021 at noon.
