Obituary of Merna Davis

Merna Davis died peacefully January 03, 2022 in Lodi, CA at the age of 94. Born Merna Lou Inman to Alvin and Thelma Inman in Walla Walla, Wa in 1927, she moved to Lodi with her family in 1930. She attended Harmony Grove and Needham elementary schools and graduated from Lodi High in 1945. She spent one year at Stockton Junior College before marrying Marvin Davis in the fall of 1947. She and Marv were married for 63 years before his death in 2010.

For nearly 30 years Merna was employed at JC Penney’s in downtown Lodi. She loved her job as a Department Manager, where she made many friends, both co-workers and customers.

In retirement, Merna and Marv traveled to France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and across the United States. She also volunteered as a reading tutor at Lawrence and Joe Serna schools.

Merna’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, Lindsay, Sam, Elizabeth, Andy, Katy and Kelly. She was proud to have lived long enough to see them start their families and careers, and prouder still when great grandchildren Gianna, Gavin, Gilia, Henry, Teddy, Owen and Ashlyn joined the family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, son Mark, daughter-in-law Linda Davis, son-in-law Joe Vasquez, brother Alvin C. Inman and sister Sue Fouquette.

Merna is survived by son Scott, daughters Sally (Larry Skelton), Jenny Vasquez, and Jill (Steve Mann) all of Lodi, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the awesome staffs at Vienna Convalescent Hospital and Vitas Healthcare.
