Obituary of Frank Levi Bridges

Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Frank Levi Bridges (aka “Frankie”) passed away at age 76 on Thursday August 4th, 2022, in the hospital near his home in Herald, CA due to complications from a heart attack.

Frank was born November 21st, 1945, in Sacramento CA to parents Frank and Elizabeth Bridges. Frank attended public schools in his hometown of Placerville CA and graduated from Eldorado High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1966 and was an Air Traffic Controller on the “U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard CVA-31” Naval Carrier.  He then served a 38-year career as a CHP Officer, finishing his career with the SACCATS before retiring in 2005.  He married Maria Zuniga May 22nd, 1979.

Frank and his wife Maria were members of the Traveling Elks and enjoyed many U.S. Road Trips with dear friends and companions. Their 5-acre Herald property kept Frank busy full time mowing the grass and fields on his John Deere tractor, planting and weeding their garden, painting, playing with (and picking up after) their many dogs, grilling and smoking meats, managing their motorhome maintenance and many ongoing “Maria projects” requiring his “many” tools!

Frank stayed current on his conservative political views which he enjoyed discussing and sharing opinions about. His favorite TV viewing included NFL games, forensics crime series programs, Western dramas, and the Military and History channels.

Frank had a larger-than-life personality, a loud, booming voice, and an animated sense of humor full of “famous Frankie’s” we will remember and quote for years to come.

Frank was survived by his Wife of 43 years Maria Bridges; Kids Macie and Levi;  his Mother Betty Bridges; 3 Children Kathy Dill (& husband Jeff), Todd Bridges (& wife Tina), and Sunni Bridges; Sister Loretta Wartburg and Brother Daniel Bridges; Grandchildren; Many dear Friends and Cousins Ron & Lynn Baker; In-Laws Alfonso & Janine Zuniga, and Aileen Zuniga (& family). He had many longtime friends from multiple organizations and communities. Frank will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held Sunday, October 16th, 2022, at 12:30pm at the Carmichael Elks Lodge 5631 Cypress Ave, Carmichael, CA 95608.  Maria’s brother Alfonso Zuniga will do the Eulogy and officiate joined by Frank’s longtime friend and CHP partner Robert Ramos, Chaplain John Kent, and others who want to remember Frank publicly. A light faire reception will immediately follow to share special memories and “Frankie-ism’s.”

Frank’s Private Interment will be held Monday, October 17th at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery (by invitation only).
