Obituary of Dolores J. Spanos

Dolores J. Spanos, 84 of Lodi, passed away December 16, 2023 after a sudden decline in her health. She was born May 1, 1939 in Poteau, OK to parents Doyle Buttress and Bertha Sheffield. In 1943 the family moved to Lodi, then briefly to Eureka before settling again in Lodi where Dolores graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1957. On August 26, 1972 she married Nickolas H. Spanos Jr., at the Carson City Chapel and they shared 51 years together. 

Dolores was a parishioner of St. Basil’s Greek Orthodox Church. She worked as a waitress at the Giant Frosty in Lodi and at Lay’s Restaurant in Lockeford. She started working at Lakewood Drugs in the 60s for her future husband, Nick Spanos Jr. and good friend, Carl Fink. She eventually earned her real estate license and worked for Grape Century 21 and Katzakian, Heath and Williams. Dolores enjoyed remodeling her properties, collecting antique furniture, and interior decorating. Most of all she loved being with her family and friends. She was a kind and sweet soul who lived life to the fullest and will be sorely missed. 

Dolores was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Spanos in 2003 and her husband, Nickolas H. Spanos Jr. just a little over a month before her passing. She is survived by her son, Nickolas H. Spanos III and grandchildren, Persephone and Nickolas IV all of Lodi; and her brother, David Buttress, of Oklahoma.

The Spanos family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to our family and friends for their unwavering support over the past few months. 

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 11th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Lodi Funeral Home Chapel, 725. S. Fairmont Ave., in Lodi. The funeral service will take place on Friday, January 12th, also at Lodi Funeral Home, with committal to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Ln., in Lodi.
