Magdalena (Maggie) Vargas of Stockton passed away peacefully on December 15, 2023, in Lodi, CA surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Maggie was born on May 29, 1935, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. She came to the United States at the age of fourteen with her family and settled in Stockton, she married Emiliano Vargas 66 years ago and they had six children together.

Magdalena’s hobbies included travel, when her health permitted, tending to her summer herb garden which she referred to as “El Jardin de Pancha,” making salsa every year with Chendo and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Magdalena was an inspiration and role model of our Catholic faith, she prayed the Rosary every day for as long as we, her children, can remember. She taught us all to pray and to have faith in our heavenly Father and our Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe from a very early age. We are blessed to have had Nana as our mother.

Magdalena is survived by her son Rick Vargas (Louise), of Clayton, daughter Connie Vargas-George (Stephen) of Galt, son Tony Vargas of Stockton, son Rudy Vargas (Gabi) of Woodbridge, son Rosendo Vargas of Stockton, grandchildren Kimberly, Ricky, Kyle, Robert, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Teresa, Kalissa,  John, and great grandchildren Ellaya, Penelope, Leana, Ria, Maxamiliano and her sister Clarita Castillo (Ignacio) of San Tan Valley, AZ. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband Emiliano Vargas, son Michael Vargas, grand-daughters Katie Marie George, Kassandra Vargas, and parents Rodrigo and Maria de Jesus Sanchez.

Magdalena was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law. She will be greatly missed but has left us all wonderful memories and much love which we will cherish forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with Father Juan Serna officiating. Committal will follow immediately at Cherokee Memorial Park.
