Obituary of Betty Carol King
Betty Carol (Shinn) King of Lodi, California, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, aged 91. She was born in Stockton, California, on August 24, 1932, to Elmer and Gladys Shinn. She joins her husband Richard Klein King, her daughter Linda Carol Cady (Jon), and her brothers Jack, Bud and Bob, who preceded her in death.
Betty was the loving, humble and kind mother of Tamra E. Hermes of Santa Ana, Richard M. King (Lori) of Chino Hills, David J. King (Karen) of Lodi, and Douglas P. King (Linda) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was adored by her grandchildren, Katrina Cady Lau, Tiffany Cady Ghatan, Tyler Cady, Tessa Cady, Lisa Hermes, Kevin Hermes, Adam King, Jason King, Ryan King, Trevor King, Abbey King, David King, William King, and Kathryn King, and step-grandchildren Ryan Regelman and Alexi Shoffner. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and her dear sister-in-law, Nita Shinn.
Betty graduated from Lodi High School in 1950. She then graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1954, with a degree in education. She taught first and second grades at Lake Marie Elementary in Whittier, California, for more than 30 years.
Betty was an avid golfer and together with her husband was a member of Candlewood Country Club in Whittier, Bermuda Dunes Country Club in Palm Desert, and Woodbridge County Club in Lodi.
Betty loved hosting large family picnics under the shade of the big walnut tree in her back yard. She cherished a good game of Mexican Train, puzzles and card games. She was an avid painter and reader and was adept at sewing, crocheting and quilting, filling her home and her family members’ homes with quilts, socks and scarves. No one can take her special place in the world.
A celebration of life will be held for family members only in late June. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of San Joaquin in Betty’s memory at hospicesj.org or 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204.
