Obituary of Charles Arthur Marines

Charles Arthur Marines, age 86, of Clements, passed away peacefully at a local convalescent hospital on December 16, 2008. He was born on July 31, 1922, in Colton, CA to George and Annie (Soares) Marines. Charles was a construction superintendent for over 25 years, retiring from McCarthy and Spiesman Construction in San Jose. In 1943, he married the love of his life, Grace Elizabeth Van Lith, and together they raised four children. Charles enjoyed fishing, raising cattle, and working on jigsaw puzzles. He was also a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, as well as Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be dearly missed. Mr. Marines is survived by his wife of 65 years: Grace Marines of Clements; children: Charles "Skip" (Margarita) Marines of Fresno, Christian (Kathy) Marines of San Jose, Janelle Marines of Felton, and Curtis Marines of San Jose; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers. Friends are invited to visit on Sunday, December 21, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Monday, December 22, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said on Monday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, December 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Committal will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park.
