Eugene "Gene" Frederick Nickel, Jr., of Lodi passed away in Lodi at the age of 90 on May 19, 2006. Mr. Nickel was born in Lodi to Eugene and Anna Nickel on June 27, 1915. He attended local schools and graduated from Lodi High School in 1934. On August 28, 1938, he married Esther M. Schneider. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII, and he was also a medic. Mr. Nickel worked as a government building estimator and was also self-employed as a contractor for C.K.N. Builders. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, lapidary work and traveling with his trailer. In 1982 he became one of the charter members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and he was a member of the Woodbridge Masonic Lodge. Mr. Nickel is survived by his son, Robert (Evelyn) Nickel of Lodi; two grandsons, James (Lisa) Nickel of Woodbridge and John (Kim) Nickel of Lodi; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Lily, Megan, Matthew and Karrie; sister, Agnes Schroeder of Lodi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther M. Nickel on December 18, 2002 and three brothers, Ted, Karl and Herb Nickel. Friends are invited to visit on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Committal will be private. Memorial remembrances may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1845 S. Ham Lane, Lodi, CA 95242.
