Cecil Mertz of Lodi, passed away peacefully in Lodi with his family at his side on March 14, 2006 at the age of 85. Mr. Mertz was born to John and Anna Mertz on August 18, 1920 in Goodrich, N.D. He has lived in Lodi since 1941. He had been employed at Stokely-Van Camp for over 25 years as an electrician /maintenance employee. He enjoyed his family and smoking his pipe. Mr. Mertz is survived by his two step-sons, Mike Thomas and Bill Thomas; four sisters, Irene Le Spade of Volcano, Dorothy Gunnells of Concord, Laura Husong of Stockton and Lue Sims of Stockton; six grandchildren, Greg Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Carrie Minard, Victor Thomas, Linda Thomas and Alex Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Gregory, Parker, Ben and Maddy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Helen Edith Mertz in February of 2000; daughter, Linda Kay Gibson in January of 2005 and brothers, Roy and Richard Mertz. A chapel service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lodi Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Dawson of United Congregational Christian Church officiating. Committal will immediately follow. Friends are invited to visit on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204-1953.
