Bernice Okert, a long-time resident of Lodi passed away in Lodi at the age of 84 on February 16, 2006. Ms. Okert was born in Carrington, N.D. on November 13, 1921 to Martin and Pauline Okert. She attended schools there, moving later to Olympia, WA, graduating for Deitz Business School. She worked as a clerk typist for the State of Washington during the war years. She moved to Lodi in 1952 and worked as a practical nurse for 30 years until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and for some time took care of her mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lodi. Bernice is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Elmer and Walter Okert and sisters, Anne Kovarik and Ruth Smith. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park with Pastor Steve Newman officiating. There is no visitation .
