Obituary of John Joaquin Azevedo

John J. Azevedo of Galt passed away in Galt on December 30, 2005 at the age of 73. Mr. Azevedo was born in Terceira, Azores on April 6, 1932 to Jose and Maria Azevedo. He came to California with his family in 1969. He was self-employed in the dairy business, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed gardening, raising his animals, carpentry, but most importantly his family, particularly his grandchildren. He will be so dearly missed. He had been a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Galt, S.E.S. Hall in Elk Grove and past president in 1983 of the Holy Ghost Festival. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Azevedo of Galt; 5 sons, Adalbert ( Lucy) Azevedo of Galt, Joe (Anna) Azevedo of Moss Beach, Ralph Azevedo of Galt, John (Wanda) Azevedo of Ceres and Tony (Tina) Azevedo of Galt; 9 grandchildren, Adalbert, Jr. Jennifer, John, Jr. Christopher, Krystal, Anthony, Steven, Trent and Tori; 5 sisters, Maria Ferreira of Stockton, Maria Silva of Acampo, Adeline Martins of Lockeford, Lina Ormende of Azores and Albertina Ferreira of Galt; one brother, Francisco Azevedo of the Azores. He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Martins and three brothers, Tony, Manuel and Joe Azevedo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Galt. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the Mass to immediately follow at St. Christopher's. Committal will follow the at Galt Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit on Thursday beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Galt Funeral Home, continuing until 8:00 p.m.
