Obituary of Clarence Leonard Jones

Clarence Leonard Jones passed away at the age of 89 at his home in Clements on Friday, December 16th, 2005 after a brief illness. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 23, 1916 to Clarence and Julia Jones. In 1934 his family moved to Southern California, where Clarence became a studio carpenter for 20th Century Fox. He married Thelma Whitehead on April 6, 1938, and went on to become a general building contractor in 1952. Clarence, Thelma and their four sons moved to Clements in 1960. He operated his construction company in Lodi until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of various service organizations, including the Lions Club, where he served as president of both the Van Nuys and Lodi Lions Clubs. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason. Clarence was preceded in death by Thelma, his wife of 64 years, who was unquestionably the love of his life, his son Kenneth L. Jones and grandson, Josh Edward Jones. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, C. Edward Jones (Winnie), Jerry R. Jones (Babe), and Daniel L. Jones (Sue), of Lodi and Clements, his half-brother, Frank E. Draeger, of Haines, Alaska, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Whitehead of San Luis Obispo, California, and Bertie MacFarlane of White City, Oregon and daughter-in-law, Karel Jones-Cole. In addition, he leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Randy C. Jones (Tammy) of Lockeford, California, Richard L. Jones of Indian Hills, Colorado, Steven C. Jones of Arlington, Virginia, Douglas S. Jones (Elizabeth Hiscox) of Phoenix, Arizona, Kasey L. Jones of San Francisco, California, Kory D. Jones of Novato, California, and Meghann, Molly and Melanie Jones of Lodi, along with 4 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23rd, 2005 at the Grace Presbyterian Church, 10 N. Mills Avenue in Lodi. There is no visitation, and committal is private. Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
