Obituary of Irvin E. Young

Irvin (Mickey) Eugene Young, age 81, passed away on November 22, 2005 at home. He was born in Lodi, CA on February 14, 1924 to Emanuel and Viola Young and graduated from Lodi High School. Irvin served in the Army in World War II for four years. He was in the Corp of Engineers stationed in Sitka, Alaska, building and maintaining air strips for the Air Force in the Aleutian Islands. Irvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Johanna Welch, of Alexandria, Virginia. They lived in Alexandria for five years after Irvin?s honorable discharge from the Army, and were members of the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Irvin is survived by wife, June A.Young, of 46 years and three children: Patricia E. Young and husband Steven L. Payne and grandson Casey Lee Young of Chandler, Arizona; Rosemary B. McCarty and husband Robert McCarty and granddaughter Kaylee Rose McCarty, of Lockeford; and Brooks E. Young and wife Marlo Jean Young of Woodbridge. He is also survived by his sister, Gladys Nekitas and husband Jim Nekitas and niece Janet Van Horne and husband Michael Van Horne and sons, Patrick, Christopher, and Alexander of San Diego, CA. Irvin was a life-long sport lover, especially baseball, playing Legion ball in Lodi for 4 years. Irvin loved his garden, his family and his God. Irvin was a member of Temple Baptist Church for over fifty years. Despite failing health he was up at the kitchen table every morning reading his Bible. He enjoyed going to lunch at the Village Coffee Chop. He was a devoted father and husband, and will be greatly missed by his family. Friends are invited to visit on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., continuing Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. A Chapel service will be held at Lodi Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2005 with Pastor Perry Kallis officiating. Ed Stewart Post #803 will present their colors. In lieu of flowers, family requests any donations to go to the Lloyd Engel Athletic Scholarship in care of Escalon High School, 1500 Yosemite Avenue, Escalon, Ca 95320, Attn: Janice Martin or Temple Baptist Church.
