Obituary of Esther H. Dirks

Esther H. Dirks of Galt passed away on October 27, 2005 at the age of 89 with her family at her side. Mrs. Dirks was born in Gregory, S.D. on June 25, 1916 to Gustaf and Hulda Gustafson. Eventually she and her husband moved to Northern California and lived in the Bay Area. She had worked at Systron-Donner, a part of the aerospace industry for 15 years in the electronic assembly department. She and her husband moved to Galt about two years ago to be with their daughter. She retired over 30 years ago, and she and her husband traveled extensively. She also enjoyed golf, but the greatest joy in her life was her family, and the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was truly loved by her family and will be so greatly missed. Esther is survived by her husband, Harry W. Dirks of Galt; children, Richard Lee (Sandy) Dirks of San Jose, Harry Gene (Sharon) Dirks of Concord, Thomas J. (Susan)Dirks of Benicia and DeAnna (Don) Eddy of Galt; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, Corky Gustafson of Paso Robles; sister, Mildred Henderson of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her son, Henry James Dirks; daughter, Karol Garlock; brothers, Dale Gustafson, Gene Gustafson and Don Gustafson; sisters, Mae Kacirek and Betty Novak. A memorial service to celebrate Esther?s life will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM at Galt Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Stevenson of Horizon Community Church officiating. There is no visitation, and committal is private at Memory Gardens in Concord. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204-1953.
