Obituary of Virginia Abbie Cornell

Virginia Abbie Cornell of Lodi passed away in Lodi on October 6, 2005 at the age of 88. Mrs. Cornell was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 2, 1917 to Arthur J. and Marion Debora Nelson. She moved with her family to California in 1925. On May 5, 1936, she married Richard P. Cornell in Yuma, Arizona. She was a cosmetologist for 47 years, and owned her own salon in Yorba Linda called the "Pink Poodle." In 1975 she and her husband moved to Lodi. She loved her family so dearly. She also had a great love for her animals. She adopted animals at the Micke Grove Zoo. She enjoyed reading, shopping, painting with oils, other forms of art, china painting and gardening. She was a very talented woman with a strong sense of purpose. Virginia is survived by her children, Diane Landon of Lodi, Paul Franklin (Patricia E.) Cornell of Florida; six grandchildren, Felicia Landon-Hicks ( Ervian Floyd Hicks, Jr.), Bridget (Bob) Michalko, Meghan (Tom) Lloyd, Brendon Cornell, Mary Kathaleen ( Mark) Albright, Stephanie Cornell and Shirley (Randy) Keller; 9 great-grandchildren, Katey, Kathaleen, Michael, Nicholas, Alysha, Christopher, Sarah, Bazil and Jake; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Cornell of Clear Lake Oaks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Cornell in 1993 and son, Nelson Cornell in 2004. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Lodi Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. David S. Hill of Grace Presbyterian Church officiating. Committal will immediately follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Sunday at 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, continuing Monday from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions may be made to P.A.W.S., P.O. Box 1037, Lynnwood, WA 98046.
