Katie Bitzer of Lodi passed away in Lodi on August 20, 2005 at the age of 100. Mrs. Bitzer was a long-time resident of Lodi who was born in Bowdle, S.D. on November 27, 1904 to Johann and Katharina Dollinger. She married William Edward Bitzer on November 30, 1926. They moved to California in 1935. Katie had worked as a Certified Nurses Aid for over 30 years. She had worked at Bechtold's Rest Home which later became Vienna Convalescent Hospital. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning and gardening. She had been a member of Fairmont Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is survived by her son, Richard (wife, Cheryl) Bitzer of Discovery Bay and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bitzer of Lincoln; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Edward Bitzer in 1994 and her son, Calvin Bitzer on May 25, 2004; 2 infants Lois and Lowell Bitzer; 9 sisters, 2 brothers and one adopted brother. A chapel service will be held on Sunday at Lodi Funeral Home at 10:00 AM with committal to follow. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, continuing Thursday through Friday the same time. Saturday visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Loma Linda University Medical Oncology Research Fund, Loma Linda University Medical Center, c/o Division of Medical Oncology, 11234 Anderson Street, Room MC-1531, Loma Linda, CA 92354. This contribution may be made on behalf of Katie's son, Calvin Bitzer.
