Clyde Arthur Howard, Jr. of Lockeford passed away in Lodi on April 7, 2005 at the age of 82. Mr. Howard was born in San Francisco, CA on January 16, 1923 to Clyde and Mahulda Howard, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945, World War II. While he lived in the Bay Area, he worked on a tugboat along with other types of boats. He owned a pub and worked at a cemetery. He started a chicken ranch when he moved to Lockeford, also working as a dairyman and working at Sharpe Depot. Eventually he went to work for San Joaquin County Highway Maintenance as an Equipment Operator II where he worked for twenty years. Earlier he built his own house in Los Altos Hills, but he was particularly well-known as a great storyteller. He is survived by his grandson, Charles A. and wife, Evelyn Howard of Livermore; granddaughters, Dusty Howard of Chula Vista and Diana Ware of Oregon; 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Howard in 1999; son, Clyde A. Howard, III in 1988 and sister Peggy Simons. A chapel service will be held on Monday at 11:00 A.M. with Chaplain Tony Berry officiating. Committal will immediately follow. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Lodi Funeral Home.
