Bertha Knoll Kammerer of Lodi passed away March 25, 2005 at the age of 97. She was born in Harvey, North Dakota February 24, 1908 and came to California on Thanksgiving Day in 1908 with her parents, Jacob and Christina Knoll, when she was nine months old. Mrs. Kammerer graduated from Victor School in 1922. She later attended College of Commerce in Stockton and received her diploma in 1925. She became her father?s bookkeeper in 1927 and continued in that position until 1966. She married Jacob Kammerer, Jr., of Franklin, CA January 12, 1930 in Lodi. The couple resided in Franklin until they moved to Lodi in the fall of 1935. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lodi. Mrs. Kammerer is survived by a daughter, Beulah Lewis (Charles) of Victor; a son, Maurice Kammerer (Karen) of Acampo; one sister, Mary Schulz of Elk Grove; sisters-in-law, Anna Knoll and Lydia Knoll of Lodi. She is also survived by grandchildren Raymond Lewis (Ia) of Wheaton, Ill, James Lewis (Vonda) of Napa, Patricia Lewis of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Kammerer (Lisa) of Lodi and David Kammerer of Acampo; great-grandchildren, Micky Kammerer and Kelsey Kammerer of Lodi, David Lewis and Joy Lewis of Wheaton, Ill and Janae Lewis of Napa, CA, along with many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kammerer was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Kammerer in 1979; seven brothers, Jacob Knoll, Jr., George Knoll, August Knoll, Albert Knoll, Adolph Knoll, Emil Knoll and Robert Knoll; six sisters, Katy Lippert, Christina Goehring, Filbina Knoll, Martha Knoll, Ida Batch, Emma Grenz; stepbrother, Riney Bender; stepsisters, Christine Pankow and Eleanor Schmierer. A chapel service will be held at Lodi Funeral Home on Thursday at 10:00 AM with Pastor Steve Newman officiating. Committal will immediately follow at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at Lodi Funeral Home on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM, continuing Wednesday 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills Ave., Lodi, Ca 95242 or charity of donor's choice.
