Arthur John Handel, Jr., 80, was born November 3, 1924 in Lodi, California. A life long resident of Lodi, he passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2004. Mr. Handel attended Emerson, Needham, and Salem Grammar Schools in Lodi and graduated from Lodi High School in 1942. In November of 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy Air Force. He received his wings in Corpus Christy, Texas in June of 1944. He returned to Lodi in October of 1945 and entered into farming as a vineyardist until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Handel served on the Board of Tokay Marketing Agreement, Blue Anchor, Inc., and Crown Fruit Company, Inc. He belonged to American Legion Post 22 in Lodi for 46 years, and was a member of the Woodbridge Golf and Country Club. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Santini Handel in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Armbuster (Dr. Thomas) of Fort Wayne, IN., and son Arthur John Handel III of Incline Village, NV., both by a previous marriage, and son Ron Handel (Jill) of Alturas; grandchildren; Dr. Rebecca Posner (Maj. Joseph) of Boston, MA and Elizabeth Armbuster of Princeton, NJ; Christine, Melissa, and Lara Handel, all of Carmel, and Geoffrey and Ashlee Handel, both of Alturas; sisters Shirley Handel of Sacramento and Bettie Todd (Leslie) of La Selva Beach. He was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie Handel Clark and his parents Arthur and Dolores (Bull) Handel. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday, November 8th , 1 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA. 95204-1953. Internment at Cherokee Memorial Park will be private.
