MILES CALVIN COPE, SR., age 85 of Lodi, passed away on October 15th in a Stockton hospital. The grandson of a cowboy and a preacher's daughter, Miles was born on July 5, 1919 in Abilene, Texas. He was a student at Texas A & M University, prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served with the 11th Airborne Division in the South Pacific. In 1942, while stationed in Stockton, he met and married native Lodian, Elva "Billie" Lange. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from U.C. Davis before coming to live and establish his own business, Cope Manufacturing in Lodi, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Big Valley Bible Church; VFW Lodi Post #22; American Legion. Survived by his sons, Miles Cope, Jr. of Stockton, Jonathan "Jon" L. Cope of Los Angeles; daughter, Cece Cope of Lodi.brother, Richard Cope of San Antonio, Texas. Preceded in death by his wife, Elva "Billie" Cope; brother, Parks Cope; sisters, Ann Blair, Charlotte Boyd, Marjorie Newman. Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home, burial will follow at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wed. u a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Big Valley Bible Church, 226 Poplar St., Lodi, CA 95240.
