Obituary of Irene Larsen

Irene Larsen, 94, of Camino, died September 16, 2004 at her home. She was born in Longmont, Colorado, to Vinton H. and Winnie B. Hamilton. The family moved to Camino in 1921. Irene attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church School in Camino and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1928. She took her nurses training at St. Helena Sanitarium and Hospital and received her R.N. degree. She later earned a Public Health Nursing Life Certificate. On January 24, 1932, Irene and Thomas H. Larsen were married in Camino where they made their home. Mrs. Larsen became the first school nurse for El Dorado County School System. Through the years, she was involved with the American Red Cross as an instructor in first aid and home nursing. She was an active member of the Camino Seventh-day Adventist Church. In addition to homemaking duties, she helped her husband with the apple and pear ranch and family business, "The Larsen Apple Barn", which was operated in partnership with R. W. Larsen and Clarence Hansen. Her husband, Thomas H. Larsen, preceded her in death in 1969. She is survived by her children, Laurene Harvey of Camino, Harold Larsen of Modesto and Tom Larsen of Lodi, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
