Velma Pearl Miller of Lodi passed away in Lodi on June 17, 2004 at the age of 96. Mrs. Miller was born in the Territories of Oklahoma on October 28, 1907 to Samuel and Anna McClung. They moved to Colorado in 1910. She married Walter Swope on April 4, 1924, and they resided in Newcastle, Colorado where her husband worked at a sawmill. Mr. Swope passed away on December 28th, 1944. Mrs. Miller enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlework, crocheting, sewing, quilting, but most importantly, her primary love was being with her family. Velma married Carl Miller on July 8, 1954. He passed away in April of 1969. Velma is survived by her son, Russell Swope of Grapevine, Texas; granddaughters, Janette Frazier of Bear River Lake Resort, CA, Patti Reich of Valley Springs, Tena Thomas of Texas; grandson, Matthew Swope of Lodi; great-granddaughters, Janelle Lopez of Lodi, Kristen Gramm of Woodbridge, Krysta Thomas of Texas; great-grandsons, Jon Frazier of Bear River Lake Resort, Jeremy Swope of Texas, Joseph Reich and Michael Swope, both of Lodi, Eric Thomas of Texas and Anthony Swope of Lodi; great-great-grandchildren, Brittnee & Hope Lopez of Lodi, Katelyn and Joseph Swope of Texas; brother, Carl McClung and sister Happy McFarland, both of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Swope and husband, Carl Miller; son, Walter LeRoy Swope who passed away in 1979; siblings, Cleo McClung, Evelyn Coulter, Mae Bertroch, Doris Zimmerman and Ray McClung. A Chapel service will be held at Lodi Funeral Home on Wednesday, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Glen Barnes of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Park View Cemetery in Manteca. Visitation be on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Lodi Funeral Home.
