Obituary of Maxine Rubel

Maxine Rubel was born March 21, 1924 in Salisaw, Oklahoma. She passed away June 3, 2004 at home with her family. She was 80 years old. Maxine was born in Salisaw and raised and educated in Bartlettsville where she graduated High School. In 1942 she moved to Los Angeles with her sister where she met and married Mercer C. Smith, Jr. The couple had two daughters; Penny and Dana, and the family made their home in Los Angeles and Anaheim. In 1954 Maxine moved to Santa Maria to be closer to her mother and finally settled in Galt where she could be closer to her daughter. She and her husband Edward "Bink" Rubel operated Rubel Buick for 33 years, Maxine also worked as a Realtor for many years. She enjoyed travel, and sewing, but her true love was golf and she played whenever she could. She was a member of the Church of Christ, the Moose Lodge Women's Auxilliary, and the VFW. She is survived by her daughter; Penny Jenny of Galt, sisters; Luella Garrett and Lee Marek both of Santa Maria, 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bink Rubel, daughter; Dana Ruiz and brother; Henry H. Gragg Jr.. Evangelist George Garrison of the Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be private.
