GARLAND WAYNE POWELL: Age 67 a resident of Pittsburg, died in Stockton, CA on May 10, 2004, following a short illness. He was born on January 17, 1937 in Durant, Oklahoma to General and Grace Powell. The family moved to Pittsburg when Garland was eight years old and he attended local schools and graduated from Antioch High School in 1955. While in high school he met Charlene Lambert and they were married in 1958. He later married Darleen Birchfield in 1988. He was employed at US Steel (which later became USS-Posco Industries), as a fork lift driver for thirty-five years, retiring in July of 2002. Garland enjoyed bowling in several bowling leagues, fishing and barbecuing. He was a simple "Oakie" with strong family ties, and we'll miss him very much. Survived by his daughter, Dottie Kelley of Lodi, son, Wayne Powell of Wallace; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Also survived by 2 stepsons, Keni Harmon of Valley Springs, Ralph Birchfield of Pittsburg; stepdaughter, Dineen Riemenschneider of Antioch; 3 step-grandchildren; 1 brother, James Powell of Pittsburg and 2 sisters, Juanita Schulte and Carol Viramontez both of Brentwood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Powell and second wife, Darleen Powell in 1994. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Lodi Lake at the Kiwanis Picnic Area on Monday, May 31st at noon.
