Obituary of David Joseph Sherman

David (Dave) Sherman of Lodi, passed away in Stockton on April 9, 2004 at the age of 70. Mr. Sherman was born in Portland, Oregon on April 15, 1933 to Harold and Philomina Sherman. He married Irene Utt on June 30, 1957. They moved to Fresno in 1965 and then moved to Lodi in 1976. He retired in 1984 after being a grain broker for 25 years. During this 25 years he was Director of the Northern California Grain Exchange from 1968-1970, and Director/Treasurer from 1981-1983. He served as Director of the California Grain & Feed Association from 1974-1976. 1980-1982 he served in advisory capacity for the California Farm Bureau Federation. He also served the San Joaquin County Farm Bureau Federation in an advisory capacity 1980-1982. He enjoyed his family and most importantly, his grandsons. He also enjoyed telling jokes, reminiscing, writing letters to the editors, fishing,creating garden-art, garage-saling and flea markets. He is survived by his wife, Irene Sherman of Lodi; children, Joseph Arch Sherman of Davis, Laura and husband, Randy Gwyn of Lodi; 2 grandsons, Stanton and Chandler Gwyn; siblings, Richard Sherman , Harold Sherman, Lucille Powell, Mildred Cook and Beverly Granato, all of Portland, Oregon, James Sherman of Gresham, Oregon and Paul Sherman of Milton-Freewater, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Steffan. There will be a Memorial Gathering, Sunday, April 18th at Lodi Lake in the Youth Area at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Thursday at Lodi Funeral Home from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Services and committal are private. Donations may be made to the Lodi House in lieu of flowers.
