George Kirby, formerly of Lodi, passed away in Folsom on March 12, 2004 at the age of 75. Mr. Kirby was born in Stockton, CA on January 4, 1929. He was a native of California. He lived in Lodi a total of 16 years. He had served in the Navy. He earned a Master of Liberal Studies and a Doctorate in Philosophy in communication studies. He was employed as an electronics engineer with the US Government. He was an engineer for over 36 years. He was a member of the Placerville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He enjoyed foreign languages, German, Russian, French and Spanish; Study of the Bible in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic; astronomy, photography, amateur radio, collecting swords; French horn, cello, string bass, violin, organ, and he was also a Pathfinder Director. He is survived by his wife, Jan Kirby of Placerville; sons, Tim Kirby of Middle Town and Michael Kirby of Las Vegas; 1 granddaughter, 1 grandson; 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ivadell June Kirby. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM at Cherokee Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held at Placerville Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Pastors Jim Pimental and Roy Hager of Placer Seventh-Day Adventist Church will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday at Lodi Funeral Home from 8AM-8PM and Friday, 8AM until noon.
