Phyllis C. Fenton passed away in Elk Grove at the age of 88 on February 5, 2004. Mrs. Fenton was born in Bemidji , Minnesota on May 8, 1915. She was employed as a civil service nurse in Alaska and then as a nurse at a convalescent home for 25 years in Florida. She graduated from Stockton College in nursing. She then went to work at Dameron Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital and San Joaquin General Hospital. She resided in Stockton many years before moving to Lodi in 1994 and then to Elk Grove in 2001. She attended the First Baptist Church in Lodi. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and AARP. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, painting ceramics, fishing, gardening, cooking , embroidery, tatting, crocheting, knitting ,and she loved to paint in pastels. She is survived by her daughter, Melba Mills-Barcena of Elk Grove; sister, Evelyn Clapper of Carson City, NV.; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew. There will be a Graveside Service at Stockton Rural Cemetery on Cemetery Lane on Tuesday at 1:00 PM. Immediately following the service, there will be a Memorial Service at First Baptist Church, 267 N. Mills Avenue, Lodi. Pastor Steve Newman of First Baptist Church will officiate the services. There is no visitation.
