James Edward Boyd, 73, of Lodi, passed away on July 22, 2003 at a Lodi hospital after a brieff illness. He was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on September 3, 1929, the son of John Robert Boyd and Mildred Z. Nickelson Boyd. Mr. Boyd came to San Joaquin County with his family from his native North Dakota when he was 1 year old. The family lived in the communities of Ripon and Escalon, where he attended local schools, graduating from Escalon High School. After graduation, Mr. Boyd enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Combat Medic during the Korean War. Following his military service, he was honorably discharged, receiving various military decorations. After the war, he met Nora Glendine Reynolds, who was living in Ceres at the time. They married on July 23, 1955 in Ceres, making their home in Lodi, where they lived since. Mr. Boyd worked as a line worked at General Mills for many years until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed gardening, caring for his dogs, and the outdoors. He loved to read military history books and was a talented artist, drawing war planes with great ease. He was a member of American Legion Post 22 in Lodi, and was formerly active with Friends of Lodi Lake. Mr. Boyd is survived by his daughter, Janet Boyd of Lodi; his brother, Thomas Oliver Boyd of Concord; and his sister, Mary Louise Herbert of Hemet, California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Nora G. Boyd in 1992, and his sister Edna Mae Henchman. Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Committal Service with Military Honors at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 28, 2003 at Cherokee Memorial Park, Highway 99 at Harney Lane in Lodi. Chaplain Herman Brosnikoff of American Legion Post No. 22 of Lodi, officiating. Visitations will be on Saturday, July 26th, from 12 Noon to 6:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Avenue in Lodi. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Lodi Funeral Home entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
