Robert Nelson, 78, died July 5, 2005 of natural causes in Lodi, CA. Bob was born in Oakland, CA in 1926. He graduated from Berkeley High School and Armstrong College. He served in the Merchant Marine during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Free Masons. He married Marilyn Briggs in 1951. In 1964 Bob moved his family from Berkeley, CA to Bethlehem, PA and worked as a spice buyer for Durkee's Spice Company. He served as President of the American Spice Trade Association from 1984 to 1986. He retired in 1989 and returned to California, residing in Cool and then Lodi. Bob enjoyed woodworking, gardening, stamp collecting and genealogy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn in 1996. He is survived by his children: Carol and Michael Fain of Norman, OK; Betty and Rich Abel of Lodi, CA; Janet and Jim Crandell of Galt, CA; Kenneth Nelson of Apex, NC and Robin and Bob Andress of Danielsville, PA. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Jenny Fain Harris, Rachelle Andress, Douglas Crandell, Katie Crandell, Randi Andress and Coralyn Reinhardt Abel. A memorial service will be held at Vinewood Community Church in Lodi on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Sacramento will be private. There is no visitation. Memorial tributes may be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX. 79174. A virtual register book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com where memories may be shared.
