A note about the posted poem... When posting to this site, it took my commas and made question marks, so please disregard them as you read. Thanks! Also, thanks to all of the special people who have shared so much love with my Nonie and Papa. God Bless! Sheri

My Nonie, A special poem about my grandmother who actually was more like a mother to me. Nonie loved it when I would write And share a poem with her That came from deep beneath my heart. She used to encourage me to write even if the words didn't rhyme Because I was sharing from the inside of my heart. So, hear I sit the day after she passed Asking God to help me share a poem about the great impact she had. She taught me so very many things That I the list could turn out to be very deep. So, I will try and make it short and sweet to Tell you exactly what she meant to me. Nonie taught me from the start How to be strong and always reach for my dreams. She told me never to quit and reach for goals far above my head. And can you believe she actually taught me how to drive Right here where she is laid to rest. We practiced parking between the trees and used to drive around until we got dizzy as one could be. She taught me how to save more money than I spent And never get those credit cards in debt. She always wanted me to be a nurse But when she saw me faint when she was giving a shot And had to get the smelling salts out Then she said that's not the job for me. I had a chance to live with my Nonie and Papa And boy did she have me whipped into shape. Some words that echo daily from my head Don't forget to dust, vacuum, make your bed, Don't forget those square corners And please don't forget about that wet towel. Nonie always said she wanted to take me to Hawaii on a trip But when God granted me a free trip in 1988 I said Nonie, how about I take you instead So, off we went on my first jet for a memory that will last until my death. My Nonie also taught me how to love Because I could see how she loved my Papa. And she used to always say never go to bed sad or mad And you sure couldn't forget about that good night kiss. Right now I'll just bet that Nonie is having a chat with Goggie her mother and don't forget all of those girl friends' Lorriane, Marsella, Harriet, Glee, Evelyn and all of her other dear friends. Now Nonie just lay back and rest, Because God has taken you to heaven for the final rest No more pain, no more tears Just lots of love and no more fears. Well, my poem has ended but the legacy of my Nonie will never end. Love Always, Sheri Elizabeth Didreckson June 10, 2003
